The bf & i have been admiring this photo that we took on our kite-flying excursion the past weekend. We really love it.
Theres something about this photo that endears me to it. It just dawned upon me that its because it signifies a defining moment in our relationship.
In my line of work, "defining moments" are thought of as important motivators of employee engagement and job performance. It is the link that converts extrinsic motivation into intrinsic motivation. Actually if u think about it, 'tis true for all kinds of non-kinship 'bond' whether issit org-person bond or person-person bond like in a bgr.
I think one of the reasons why the bf and I have such a long, stable and happy relationship is because we have a lot of defining moments. (Although we don't always celebrate every single one, but in our minds the little defining moments add up.) This not only keeps us interested in hanging out with each other, but also buffers us against the negative effects of mundane realities of everyday life and struggles of differences (which, I can assure u, are not trivial). This is very important in a relationship as differences and disagreements are bound to present itself over due course of time, and even more so post-honeymoon period. Allowing the negative emotions to leech away the good of the relationship dooms it to failure...
When was the last time you and your loved one had a defining moment?
